University 46, H1 Thunder 41 (V)

Kalani Varsity League
We played hard, but UHS played a smart and tough game. It was physical on ball and Morales (ILH referee) let defenders bump and hand check on the perimeter. That worked in favor of UHS and that's the reality. When a referee calls a game a certain way consistently, all you can do is adapt.

Without Radyn and Chase, we looked very young at times tonight. UHS beat us to every loose ball and crushed us on the boards, and we did not contest their 3-point shooters well.

Boards and perimeter defense. Yes, we really missed Chase tonight. Then again, had Radyn been there tonight, he would've suited up for UHS.

Kapaa shot lights out tonight from deep and really kept us in the game. But credit UHS' man defense for forcing turnovers with physical play. We just aren't a physical team yet, especially with our 8th graders.

What also stood out is our inconsistent fundamentals with the ball. Trying to cross over a defender before he has moved left or right. We really need practice time to work on these kinds of basics. We haven't had enough time at all.

We played with effort, but the little things we didn't do ahowed our imexperience -- not a shock with our roster of (almost exclusively) 8th, 9th and 10th graders. We're 6-3 with so much more room to improve. We win together. We lose together. We stick together.

Lineup: Micah, Jonah, Felcris, Kapaa, Kali'a, Tenchi, Michael, Ryan.

Next: Wednesday, 430 pm -- Practice at Makiki Park.
Thursday, 430 pm -- Practice at Makiki Park.
