Maui Trippers update 7/1

July 21-26, 2015

>> FLY FLY FLY. I've made reservations for air fare (group of 11) departing HNL Tuesday, July 21, 9:32 am. Leaving MAUI Sunday, July 26, 8:09 pm. Cost: $157 per passenger (awesome group rate) except for the late addition (whoever didn't show up for fundraisers so far). That price for the addition will be determined by Hawaiian Air soon, but it's not a huge difference. My estimate is $23 at most.

>> DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE. I've reserved two 2012 Scions at Maui Car Rental, a family-owned business in Kahului. They'll pick us up at the airport and take us back from their headquarters. The Scions are at a very reasonable price. and including taxes/etc the price is $174 for each vehicle for the entire week. We're getting two Scions to fit our group, and some of our parents will rent their own cars.

>> SLEEP STATION. We have a couple of two-bedroom condos at Maalaea Bay for a very reasonable price of $800 for five days. There's the booking charge ($35) and cleaning charge ($135) for each unit, normal stuff, so it's actually $970 per condo. Very hard to find a better deal and value anywhere on Maui. Hotel rooms are not the way to go with large groups. Our condo experience in Kona last year was just right. Having a kitchen is a big plus.

>> ENTRY FEES. I've decided to include the Maui Summer Classic entry fees in our budget. Why? I believe we can raise enough funds to cover it. And the alternative is that I'd go broke and we don't like bouncing checks and charges. Another alternative is that parents chip in for half the entry fees like we've usually done, which would come out to roughly $59 per player (Int/JV).

Each team fee (Intermediate and JV Divisions) is $500, which is actually a big discount from the actual fee of $650 for one team.

If, however, we don't raise enough funds to cover the entry fees, I'll cover that cost. I'd rather not take out a small loan, but it's an option.

Budget
Air fares, 11 passengers: $1,760 (est)
Autos, 10 passengers: $350
Condos: $1,940
Entry fees: $1,000
Total $5,050

Individual cost
JV/Inter players: $504.06
JV only player (Tani): $442
Late addition/adult (Suzy): $419

Several of our players are halfway or nearly halfway to the goal. Tani is actually past the halfway mark. Please bear in mind that this does not include food money or spending money. But every dollar we earn through fundraising takes us closer to making this an almost-paid-for trip.

Next fundraisers: Fish Net on Friday, Fish Net on Saturday, Huli Chicken Pickup/Sign-holding on Sunday.
WE LOVE THIS GAAAAME!!
