Monday funday

Yes, it's hard to get a practice in with a full team this time of year. That's the flip side of a busy game schedule. Summers aren't summers any more, not with school years starting earlier than ever (July 29) and so many kids attending summer school. And both football and basketball teams are maxing out in the summer with workouts on the court, the field, in the weight room. I've never seen anything like it.

But we still try. If two guys show up for a workout at 3:30 pm, that's two guys who benefit from the reps. It was Skylar and Matthew today. Extensive ballhandling work, and I mean stuff that we will use in any game. I love the two-ball drills that Press and Pete Maravich pioneered years ago, but for our purposes, it's more crucial and effective to work on the basics: keeping eyes upcourt, dribbling below the kneecaps (as best possible), understanding balance, footwork and momentum — especially in 1-on-1 attacks.

Sky already has a knack and a good base as a dribbler. Matthew isn't as refined, but he has a nice feel. Both guys have room to improve, as all players do, but they really worked solid today rep by rep. It was hot, breezy and very, very productive. Thanks guys!

Jayden got there (after they were at Colin's doctor appointment) and the three of them got a lot of shooting reps in for the last 30 or 45 minutes. Two hours total. Good work, Thunder :)
