This doesn't mean nobody else can travel to the tournament and play. It does mean that any other person would have to book his/her own air fare.
There are also some families traveling to Maui, like the Apuyas and Gormleys. They will make their own accommodations (housing, auto) but will spend most of their time with the rest of the H1 Thunder Ohana. I'm looking forward to seeing the sunrise above Haleakala when we have a day off during the tournament. I'll start working on an itinerary of times and things to do. Please submit your suggestions, especially if you've seen a lot of cool places on Maui.
For the guys who are fundraising, most of you are doing a great job so far. Don't let up because if you don't keep working and don't reach your goal, there might not be any money to cover the difference. Fortunately, many of you guys are halfway there or better. We have fish netting on Saturday and Sunday (July 11 and 12) and again the following week, so the opportunities continue to be there. I'm going to crunch the numbers from the huli huli chicken fundraiser today. That was an excellent gain for a lot of our guys thanks to their hard-working and loving parents.
It's hard to see Josh Roberts not going on the trip. His parents worked their tails off and sold 100 tickets to co-workers. Michelle sold 50 off the bat. But God and family come first and they've got a mainland trip to do during our Maui trip, so please pray for their ohana.
The funds they raised for Josh R will go toward the next trip and/or league fees, uniforms, etc. Whatever they decide. Josh R is probably in as good physical condition as any of our guys after doing cross country, basketball, volleyball and football conditioning in the past nine months. Often he had two workouts in a day and held up well. In a tournament with two games per day, he would have thrived. Hopefully, we get into top physical shape when we go to Maui to make up for the hustle and endurance that Josh R would've given to his team.
Below is an updated budget. My calculation for the condos (2) at Maalaea Bay was off by a total of $237. I had accounted for the booking fee ($35) and cleaning fee ($135) for each unit. However, I forgot about that nasty 13% tax. So that makes the total for the two units $2,154.72 rather than $1,977. Still a very good deal, but I am a little aggravated.
