Before I forget, please take note:
For the guys who will travel to Maui for the Summer Classic July 21-25, your ticket sales for the huli chicken fundraiser will be applied to the cost. The cost is roughly $600 per person counting air fare, ground transportation (van), condo rental (we're going to hunt for that just like the one in Kona last year).
If you sell tickets and don't travel to Maui, you will be credited toward the 2016 Summer Trip which will probably to Las Vegas and possibly Anaheim (again). So either way, please hustle and get your game on selling tickets to family, friends, co-workers, classmates, aunties, uncles, grandmas and grandpas. The more we sell each month, the easier it gets to really enjoy the trips this summer and next summer. And less stress for all parents involved.
Half-chicken plate. We're not
selling plates, but you get the
gist of how big the half is.
I was eating lunch at Rainbows/Hawaii's Favorite Kitchens after shooting photos and video of their huli/rotissere. Could not finish the half chicken plate. It's BIG. Great deal for $7, so please keep that in mind for your huli chicken ticket buyers.
Also got to talk some more with Jimmy, who happened to be there. He suggested I check out the huli chicken sale this weekend at the nearby Kapahulu Community Center. I'll give that a look on Sunday. It's the same huli guys (Hoku's BBQ) and Jimmy said the center sells 2,000 each time. (Not sure if that's half or whole chickens, but either way that's incredible.)
BIG MAHALOS
Mrs. Chang, our biggest fan, already offered to buy a half-dozen to help her favorite team. Mahalo Mrs. Chang! She has already donated a lot of aloha and funds to our team in the past few weeks, coming to our games with son Sanford to back us up.
Mahalo to Joel, Jonah's dad, for shooting even more game video this week. And of course, Brandon, Ryan's older brother, for tirelessly shooting video when he's free. Eric, Sierra's dad, shot two games this week. I really try not to ask parents to shoot because I know they just want to enjoy watching their children play. When we're in a bind, though, Eric never ceases to offer his skills. Same with Joel. THANK YOU, GENTLEMEN.
MORE HULI HULI
## No bad ideas, just great possibilities ##
Making something out of nothing - while putting our hearts and sweat on the line. That's what fundraising is and I've known it since I was a kid going door to door selling Gouveia Portuguese sausage, M&Ms candy, all kinds of stuff. No shortcuts, just sheer effort and great planning by our coaches/parents.
But over time, creativity helps a lot. One parent suggested a rummage sale some time back. We've done cookie sale - that went nicely thanks to Auntie Char. Auntie Lei spearheaded a good entertainment card fundraiser last year. The more ideas we have, the better. For now, huli chicken - and if it goes well, we'll plan to do it every month and stock up funds for next summer's mainland trip. But we can't stop at just one type. Just keep pushing the envelope with ideas and keep stocking up and who knows how far we'll travel in the next 12 or so months.
WE LUB THIS GAAAAME!!
