H1 Thunder 36, Roosevelt 31 (V)

Kalani Varsity League
Close battle all the way with another scrappy, tough squad coached by Steve Hathaway. Our offensive execution could be much better, but RHS' defense had a lot to do with that. There are a number of little details we need to work on to be very effective — which I know we can be — on the low post, on the wing, on our pick/roll sets, everything.

Out defense was solid, particularly in the second half with Tenchi, Kali‘a, Chase and Kapaa walling off the paint. Tani got us some much-needed points on the fastbreak, sometimes off blocks by Tenchi, who played with a sore calf.

Radyn (injury) would've thrived against Roosevelt's tight man defense, but we also did a decent job attacking and getting to the foul line. Our FT shooting has been much better; tonight was bleh. We got some good minutes from our 8th graders (and 7th grader). It was a slower pace and not a lot of action for our Thunder reserves.

Ryan was on campus, but unable to play while he practiced with Kalani's JV. We missed him. Jared and Micah played on the other side and did pretty well. Jared is the heart of that team and sliced through our press in the late going. That was enough for me. We dropped it after that. Micah hit a 3. Roosevelt played a lot of their pups (four freshmen) at the end, and that helped us; their shot selection dropped off and ours was solid.

Lineup: Jhevin, Jance, Jonah, Felcris, Keanu, Kapaa, Tani Mosi, Colin,Tenchi, Kali'a, Chase.
Good finish, good team win, Thunder. WE LUB THIS GAME!
Next: Saturday, 10:00 am - Practice at Makiki Park.
