Just back from a rare Saturday night trip to church. Guest speaker was awesome. He talked about his dad and how he never knew about his dad's emotional highs and lows, the way his dad felt about him ... wishing he'd known then.
For me, expressing emotions has not usually been a problem. It's keeping them in check that I need to work on, and I'm working on it when it comes to life and coaching. Knowing I can't do everything myself. Big lesson the past month, learning to accept help — great helping hands — and learning to ask for it. Bottom line is giving our kids the best they can get, and there is so much wisdom and and knowledge surrounding me. It's a reservoir I must continually tap into.
Especially with our younger players, who are 10 to 12 years old. They need more one-on-one instruction and correction in teachable moments whether it's in the middle of drills at practice or in the midst of a game. I'm thankful we have that kind of teacher in Coach Larry. I'm thankful we have the passion and sense of humor in someone like Coach Bo with the older kids. He pushes them and enjoys them through every up and down.
God is good!
A reminder to myself and all of us who are in some form of teaching on or off the court.
