Our 15U hit the floor for the CAL League tonight and got beaten by a very good Boom squad by about 15. The difference between 13U and 15U is significant, but several of our 13U got a lot of playing time tonight and made some good plays. As a team, we are nowhere near cohesive yet in 15U, but we'll get there with consistent work at practice.
I like that the 15U never gave up. We are probably the youngest team in 15U, with only two or three "older" players, while the rest are 12 or 13, and a few of our older guys are relatively inexperienced. So much of this game is mental more than physical and today was a classic case of being raw and green, in a lot of cases, which led to unforced errors.
This is only game one for 15U, and I expect us to improve drastically in the coming days and weeks. A rematch with Boom in the playoffs would be awesome. We've recovered and evened the score against other teams before. It could happen again, no question.
I'll be off-island for work the next couple of days, but Kyle's dad, Roy, will bring the basketballs to the park on Thursday and Friday, 4:30 p.m. I'll be back Saturday and we'll practice then at 5 p.m. Then the 13U plays on Sunday, 10:30 a.m., Koko Head gym.
