As the pizza turns

A lot of guys are in a happy mood after a win. Happy meaning, yup, let's eat pizza! So there's been a lot of pizza eating lately. Even our younger guys (and girls) have been eating after games, not because we're winning a lot, but because they're having a good time. With the 13U and 15U, we've gotten better and even the close losses feel like victories. But when it comes to our 16U and 17U, I expect so much. Maybe too much.

A 52-43 win over a big, sharpshooting Damien team tonight was another comeback (at Kalani Summer League). We have a habit (16U/17U) of falling behind by double figures early. But the one thing I was happier with today is that they pushed the ball upcourt a lot more. It should happen on every possession, and though we're not anywhere near that level yet, we're starting to get there.

Had a decent practice with our 13U and 15U earlier in the day. So much for the 13U to learn, and most of them are 10, 12 years old, so sometimes there are problems with staying focused. But we worked hard on press breaker and our press, and they got a good sweat going with shooting drills.

Back on the court tomorrow, 3:00 pm, before the 16U plays at the Maryknoll JV League (6:00 game) and the 15U plays at CAL League (Kilauea gym), 8:00 pm. Another busy night ahead, having fun and still looking for that uptempo pace and 80 points per game. (60 points per game for the 13U.) We'll get there one day.
