It was Keanu's last game with us during his vacation. I never really thought he would be back since moving to Colorado last year, but he was there at every game possible. The only game he missed — he had to pack up some of his family's stuff that had been in storage and mail it out that day. But it was great to see him and his spirit and joy for the game up close again. Our team hasn't been the same since he left, but we're not quite the team we are if it hadn't been for him and his dedication to the game — and loyalty to the team — for those two years.
Who says goofballs can't be basketball geniuses?
The game today was a bit ragged, but there were plenty of moments of good execution. We pushed the ball upcourt with more regularity, but we're still nowhere near as quick as we want to be. Maryknoll I looked a lot more organized and sharp in the week since we played them. It was actually close until the end of the first half when we went on a run, sparked by Keanu, and went up 22-12 by halftime. Final was 42-26.
I haven't even checked the schedule in a few days, not sure if we have a game Monday. (You can see the schedule on an earlier post below.) But we got some shooting and ballhandling practice in this afternoon at Makiki Park. Even Kency made it to practice and learned a few plays. A new player (I forget how to spell his name, something like Corren) stopped by and we ate a lot of pizza and watermelon. Mahalo to Walter's dad, Mark, for always providing awesome snacks and refreshments.
