After talking with Clay Tang of the Ikaika Basketball Club about his 9th-graders league tonight, these scenarios are still on the table since we indicated that we will not have enough players to enter a (late) team:
1. He's conferring with another team to fill the 10th and final slot.
2. If that doesn't work out, he'll need to fill it or the league will be stuck with a bye for one of the nine teams each week.
3. That would also mean one less game (eight instead of nine) and, since it's a fundraiser for the Ikaika Basketball Club, less money raised.
4. If the 10th team drops out, Clay is willing to permit our team of 10th graders to fill that slot.
If that's the case, there are a few questions I have for our team.
A. Would you guys be willing to play in this league, which operates on Sunday nights between 4:30 and 8:45 p.m.?
B. Would you be willing to play against younger players, even though many of the teams are elite level and have players with a lot of size and skill?
C. Would your parents be willing to pay for a second league? If we have eight players, that comes out to $50 per player. Our six guys from the KAC Thunder plus Keanu equals seven and we'd have to add one more guy for a solid eight-man rotation.
Food for thought. If we enter, I support you guys. If we don't, I support you guys. We still have our CAL League on Sunday mornings, but the opportunity to play two games instead of one on the weekends is mighty tempting.
I'll check back with you guys at Tuesday's practice.
