Guys, please welcome Keanu Flores-Vela to the squad. (APPLAUSE!!) Keanu joined us at practice on Saturday, which was light and just halfcourt scrimagging with the makule (old) guys. (They're just about my age, which makes me old, too.)
Keanu felt very welcome and I think we enjoyed his presence, too. Not too often that we'll meet someone who loves basketball as much as he does. Awesome! Keanu is the first new player to join the Thunder as we enter the next league.
He said that he'd like to play with us if we had any openings, but really, with his great attitude and skill level, it's actually me, as a coach, who feels pretty lucky that Keanu came our way.
So, that makes 7 players on the new CAL league roster. I'd like us to have 9 or 10 players in all. My list of potential additions is at 8 names, but none of them have connected back to me yet. I'm still open to any other potential Thunder players. Just let me know.
No practice this week. That's the plan, at least for now. Enjoy your time off, guys. Go to the park or gym and work on your basics, especially free throws. We can easily improve on yesterday's 8-for-29 stat at the line, but it won't happen without repetition on a daily basis. Make your daily 50.

Sunday, Aug. 8, 10:30 a.m. — optional 808 Basketball weekly clinic, Roosevelt High School. Must have a parent there to register for that first time, $2 fee
Sunday, Aug. 8, 4:30 p.m. — practice, Kahala Park
Tuesday, Aug. 10, 4:30 p.m. — practice, Kahala Park
Thursday, Aug. 12, 4:30 p.m. — practice, Kahala Park
Friday, Aug. 13, 5:00 p.m. — practice, Kapaolono Park (Later start because I have a football photo shoot at Castle before practice)
Sunday, Aug. 15, time TBA — Championship game (?), tentative, Kalani High School gym
Sunday, Aug. 22, time TBA — CAL league, first game, McKinley High School gym
