Donley, a 6-foot-1 eighth-grader, also defended in the final seconds as Aiea missed a potential game-tying 3-point try from the corner.
Keanu Vela, a 5-11 freshman, led the Thunder with 15 points (6-for-13 from the field). Mike Pimentel added four points and a team-high nine rebounds, and Blake Wade, a 6-2 eighth grader, pulled down five rebounds and helped the Thunder control the low post. He added a key turnaround jumper in the paint for a 3-point play in the final minutes.
The Thunder finished with a 36-19 edge on the boards, including 13 offensive caroms.
They led 10-7 at halftime, but the cagey Blazers pushed the tempo and used fastbreak buckets to take a 15-12 lead midway through the second half.
The game was tied at 26 with less than 2 minutes left when point guard Randon Oda (five assists) sliced into the lane and fed Donley for a layup just one second before the shot clock expired. After a quick miss by Aiea, Oda fed Donley on a fastbreak, and Donley drove for a traditional three-point play. His free throw gave the Thunder a 31-26 lead with 58 seconds remaining.
That was enough to give the Thunder a win in the CAL (Compete and Learn) League 15-under opener, which tipped off at 8 a.m.
Their next game is on Sunday at 11:10 a.m.
