CAL Thunder: Sunday update

WOW. First of all, I was impressed. Nearly everybody made it to McKinley for our 8 a.m. game today. I remember being 13, 14 and struggling to get up early on weekends.

As for the game, good teamwork, Thunder! I can say that only because we just played a real solid TEAM in the Aiea Blazers. They were seasoned veterans who pass the ball well, play tough zone defense together -- highly efficient, very good team. Getting a win over them is huge for us, especially with the clutch plays on offense and defense. Woohoo!

If you guys feel like we didn't play well, give it time. We're still meshing as a team despite having only 2-3 practices per week. I'm encouraged by today's game and the great effort we had on the floor. We also had intelligence out there, steadily getting more effective with our motion zone offense. Once we started crashing the offensive boards consistently, we were on a good roll.

Zone defense, not bad. The Blazers missed open shots so we were fortunate. Man defense was better, kept us in more of an uptempo mode.

We've got plenty of room for improvement. That will come with time, patience and willpower. I'm stoked about today, though. We had fun and we'll have more fun in the coming weeks.

Note: The schedule is being revamped, I think, so we'll get a solid one sometime soon. With the teams that dropped out and got added into the CAL League, I can understand how tough it is for Greydon (director) to keep the schedule set.

Note 2: I'm working on extra games, possibly with Leilehua and the Aliis, and more. Stay tuned!
