Ali‘i 43, H1 Thunder 42 (14U)

NJB Hawaiian Hoops Classic, 14U Division semifinal
Manoa gym
Heartbreak for our guys in a tight, physical battle. Ali‘i had just 5 players today, but they were a very cohesive, smart 5. We trailed by 2-4 points for most of the game, but rallied and took a 40-39 lead in the final minute. Tanielu was very tough driving from the high post, but when Ali‘i applied pressure up high, we lost our rhythm and stopped hitting that high post.

We were down 43-40 in the final :20, missed an open 3-point shot, got the rebound, but didn't get another 3-point try. Our guys tried to draw contact on the putback, we got 2 points and time ran out.

It's a tough loss. We really have the talent and heart to win this championship, but the Ali‘i made one or two more plays than we did, a few more free throws, and that's was enough to edge us. I feel bad for our kids. They played so well to get to the semifinal (winning three games).

Now we get ready for the third-place game. I know it's going to be hard for some guys to get up for this, but we'll push forward and stay focused.

Next: Sunday, 1:20 pm - H1 Thunder vs. Kona Stingrays (NJB Classic 14U third-place game), Manoa gym.
WE LUB THIS GAME!
