Thunder Pups 38, Warriors 31 (13U)

PAA League, 13-Under Division. Lanakila gym.
Good job tonight, Thunder Pup Squad. With Ryan injured (wrist) from his school game earlier today, everybody had to dig deep and pitch in. Micah was an Ironman tonight, played every minute. His experience and wisdom are HUGE for us, and he was great going to the basket against the Warriors' man-to-man defense.

We had some nice plays tonight. My favorite was the pass on the backdoor cut for a layup (Fohawk). We also had a lot of hustle plays with Little Josh in the middle of most of them. He hit the floor at least two times for loose balls. The rest of us should join him on those every time.

Jonah played big, no surprise. He was superb on the high post/screen and he was tough inside on the boards, and he was solid on our fullcourt and halfcourt pressure. We got a lot of contribution from everybody — Walter, Jayden, Jance, Trinity, Jhevin, Chaz — and hung on for a tough win.

We led 28-20, gave up eight points in a row, then took a five-point lead and hung on. Good composure down the stretch. Still plenty to work on, but I'm happy for you guys. You're reaping the rewards of your daily hard work.

Next: Sunday, 3:00 pm — Optional shooting practice at Makiki Park. Originally scheduled for 4:00 pm, but my nephew is leaving for college and his mom scheduled a dinner for 5:00.

No practice on Monday. It's going to be Marcus Mariota and the Oregon Ducks playing for the national championship that afternoon. I know a few of our dads plan on staying home to watch that, so no sense in practicing. I'll be watching the game, too. MM8 is truly great.

I'll post the rest of our practice schedule for next week soon. Waiting to get my work schedule. I know we don't have another PAA 13U game until Wednesday, Jan. 21. We will have an Aiea 13U League game next Sunday (11:30 am), and probably a CAL Intermediate Division game that afternoon.

MAHALO to Bino (Jhevin's dad) for getting the team warmed up before the game. I had to work and got there just before the game.

WE LOVE THIS GAME!
