It is, in essence, the original Beautiful Game. While the design is wonderful DNA, the guts of the system is work ethic. Like anything else, nothing worth working for is acquired without blood, sweat and tears, and not necessarily in this order.

H1 Thunder 41, Mililani Storm 30 (JV)
Ikaika League, JV Division championship game, Aiea gym
CONGRATULATIONS to the league champion H1 Thunder! No matter what obstacle we faced, we overcame. Players win games, defense wins championships. Great defense again today, containing the paint against Mililani's big man, and challenging their shooters from deep on most shots.
We lost Radyn to an ankle injury just a few minutes into the game, but our depth was superb. We stuck with man defense from start to finish, great communication again. Mililani switched out of its 2-3 zone to man, then in the second half to 1-2-2, but our execution prevailed. That's been the blueprint for this Thunder JV team: patience, pound the rock inside-out, run the break when it's there. We've played our best basketball when we work together on offense and defense, simply wearing out opponents with our heart and intelligence — and DEPTH.
I know all our Intermediate Thunder who didn't play a lot of minutes learned a lot by being there, watching and absorbing. You don't get that from watching a highlight video. You get that from being there in person.
Looking forward to the potluck tomorrow. Hope everyone can make it, enjoy great food and weather, and most of all, great Thunder Ohana company.
Again, congratulations to the humble and hearty H1 Thunder champions.
Special Mahalos: Mrs. Patti Chang and son Sanford made it to the game despite busy schedules. Thank you for another generous donation to the Thunder keiki, Mrs. Chang, and always looking out for our players, parents and coaches.
Special Mahalo to Jason Apuya and family for picking up Felcris, Tani and Chris for rides to the game. Also Special Mahalo to Rob Mielke and Kali‘a for picking up Jared. I was occupied with an early meeting, but once again our parents came through with the big assists. Thank you, Ohana.
Big Mahalo to Brandon Higashionna for shooting the game video for a 58th time in a row as a volunteer. Your unselfishness and gift of energy, time and skill on the camera will never be forgotten, Brandon.
Lineup: Jhevin, Jance, Trinity, Skyler, Felcris, Micah, Colin, Jayden, Chase, Chris, Mosi, Radyn, Ryan, Tenchi, Kali‘a.
