Varsity: Thunder 28, Jr. 'Bows 26

Tough battle as expected. Our young guys held down the fort best they could. Kyle Moraga and Chris Tatupu Afe keep on playing big against guys 3-4 years older. John Chow, Jerry Betiru, Tomu were the Fab Five to begin the game. Then Sisifo Lauvao and Tone Lauvao arrived. Then Sierra and Haka Iamhaka Johnson got there late in the second half.

Jerry played his tail off tonight on defense and offense, which was tough since we were thin at the guard position compared to most nights. He was exhausted by the end of the game, which is why it's good that UHS' best shooter missed a baseline shot at the buzzer.

UHS is always tough, always well-coached by Walt Quitan. Today, they had some returnees mixed with some new players. Their PG, Anthony Canencia, didn't play. He got there late because of football practice. But we were missing a bunch of guys, too, like Isaiah (school practice). Our Roosevelt guys (Mick Colling, Brent Quackenbush) were at their school practice, too, but it was cancelled and they never made it.

Good win for our guys in a competitive St. Francis League. We've been in every game, picked up two wins and hopefully will keep learning how to win these close games at the varsity level. Two games left in this league (Fri-Sat) and a lot of games left in the Kalani Varsity League.

Next: Thunder 15U vs. Chargers JV, Thursday, 6:00 pm, Pearl City HS gym. WE LUB THIS GAME!
