This was our second game at the Kalani Varsity Summer League. Close game until the final 3-4 minutes. We played fairly well defensively, contained their top shooters most of the time. But our youth showed in the second half with too many turnovers against their straight man defense. It's a double-edged sword having a young team of mostly 15U and 13U guys going up against seniors and juniors. We get a lot of valuable experience in the ups and downs. We make mistakes. I'm willing to live with that.
We had no choice last night with the twins and Tomu not there, but it also gives everyone else opportunities. With Chris out (injury) and Haka not there, too, Isaiah had a solid game and John did all right as our only guys older than 14 years old. It's not easy beating a varsity team twice in one week.
They were a different team with Canencia back running their offense. My biggest regret is that we didn't go to Isaiah in the post late in the game. Earlier, Canencia had a hard time covering him.
Next: 15U vs. Falcons tonight (Wednesday), 6:20 pm, Kilauea gym. On Thursday, 15U plays at 6:00 pm in the Pearl City JV League while 17U plays 7:15 pm in the Kalani Varsity League. WE LUB THIS GAME!
