Hanging tough in Manoa

12U is doing well, winning two pool play games today against OTB and Kahului Falcons. The OTB was a 15-point margin early in the second half. Our press was doing good work and our passing against OTB's press was on point. But Tanielu fouled out with 10 minutes left and we were running low on subs by then. Chris played a strong game in the paint, while Jared, Mackie and Micah made plays from the perimeter. Kodee was a big key on the boards and on the press. We hung on to win by about six points. (Can't remember the score.)

Second game for 12U, it was 2-2 for a long time before our press took effect. We led 24-2 at halftime and got to use everybody. Our reserves (Micah, Paul, Walter) got a lot of minutes, and Tanielu kept his fouls in check. The whole team did better with the unnecessary reaching/hacking fouls and wound up winning 48-27 (I think).

Then to our surprise, we have a third game coming up this afternoon. I hadn't looked at the schedule beyond pool play. So we have a (12U) 5:00 pm game at Palolo gym. Don't know who we play, not concerned with that. I'm concerned with our guys and girls having fresh legs and adjusting to how much gas they still have in their tanks.

Kyle was at church today and missed the two games, but he says he'll be there for the game at Palolo.

Between our 12U, 15U and 17U, we played six games in the past 18 hours. That might explain why my brain is feeling zapped right now. But we're in a break until 17U plays a semifinal (Manoa gym) at 3:00 pm. Then the 12U game at 5:00 pm (Palolo) follows.

The 17U won their game against Hawaiian Punch 59-45. Good job with fullcourt pressure and pushing the fastbreak. It wasn't perfect, but we made a lot of hustle plays and did enough physically on the low post against a tall team.

Reminder: If you have not received your five car wash tickets to sell, let me know. Auntie Char has printed up a new batch. Thank you, Char!

REMINDER #2: 15U has a CAL League game on Sunday (tomorrow), 9:00 am, McKinley gym. Be there by 8:00 am, everybody!

I LUB THIS GAME.

2:00 pm: Got this from Coach Allen on his Facebook page.
