Deadline today for NJB Classic

Getting the Thunder laundry done, running around to get the forms printed up (and filled out) for the NJB tournament. Today's the deadline so I'll be heading downtown to drop the forms off. But the money's due this afternoon, too, and there won't be enough funds until tomorrow (at the earliest) in my checking account. So it's up to the director of NJB whether to give us a one-day cushion or not.

Worst-case scenario: He says no cushion, we don't play in the tournament (17U, 12U) and save the money for the upcoming leagues that start in August. Value-wise, spending $325 for each team in a tournament (five games) isn't that great. The excitement and level of competition is awesome, though. So are the memories.

But if we skip it and focus on the fall leagues (CAL, NJB All-Net, Pa'a), we'll get plenty of games there, too (10 games per team for CAL and NJB, not sure on Pa'a). Those entry fees are not cheap: $400 for CAL, $500 for NJB, $440 for Pa'a. CAL stops the clock on free throws (until the referee gives the shooter the ball on the second foul shot), and that makes huge, huge difference in the total time of the game. CAL is a great value, great leadership, well officiated for the most part. They're consciencious (sp).

NJB is very well-run, too, though reading the updated schedules is tough sometimes. Everything is coded, not listed by team name, so I'm going to enlist help from our parents (and players) to make sure we don't miss any games.

Pa'a is foreign to me. I know they run the clock through all free throws, making it a very fast (too fast?) game. But they offer 17U (as does NJB), so that's an option if our 17U want to play two games (or more) per week in the fall.

I'm at peace with whatever NJB decides to do with me/us today. I did my best. All I can do.
