16U wins shootout over Kalihi Valley

Pit stop: Another comeback by the 16U makes it a nice Sunday for Thunder fans. They rallied from (at least) 11 down in the second half to beat Kalihi Valley 68-67. Haka and Isaiah caught fire from 3-point range, and everybody worked hard on the press to rally against a Kalihi team with lots of quickness and 1-on-1 scorers.

Isaiah's 6-foot shoot in a mad scramble gave us the lead with 25 seconds left. Then Bryson
Bryson's free throw in the final 20 seconds or so put us ahead, and he came up with a tip on a pass by Kalihi from the corner to force a turnover in the final few seconds. A lot of fun to watch. You'll see it on the game video highlights later. It was, as Coach Larry said, "a shootout."

We've had a close game with Kalihi Valley before — back a few months ago in Aiea's 16U league. We won by a small margin. The next time, some of their key guys were off island and we beat them solidly in the playoffs.

I just dropped Chris and Tanielu off at the park, where Mackie, Jenna, Mele and Jenna's dad, Eric, are right now. Little Paul needed a ride, so I'm en route to pick him up. Started loading today's video footage (vs. Kapolei/Hubba Bubba and Kalihi Valley).

13U will shoot until 4:30, then we'll have regular practice for them and 15U. I LUB THIS GAME.
