All Over 55, H1 Thunder 38 (15U)

CAL 15U League, Kilauea gym
This was a talented, big team with decent 3-point shooters. Not a good night to match up without our full lineup. But we had more than enough to win this game.

We scrapped the press and stayed in halfcourt with a little bit of stretch pressure, but we were flat, stationary offensively and not moving/cutting properly. A lot of mindless turnovers, maybe related to fatigue (we played a JV game less than 2 hours earlier), maybe related to being shorthanded.

We trailed 28-8 at the half. Then we finally found some chemistry against their 1-2-2 zone. Instead of throwing the ball away, we actually began to pivot and see the whole floor. We stopped losing the ball against soft on-ball pressure. We cut the lead to 10 or 12 only to commit mistakes, give up easy breakaway layups. We should've cut that lead to 5 with all the steals and opportunities we had.

Instead, we were down 15 going into the fourth quarter, made a mini-run but faded at the end. Our second half was far better than the first. But our lack of experience showed against a very good team. Guys unwilling to step in and take an easy charge. Guys not squaring up and seeing the whole court before passing. Guys dribbling when there are wide-open teammates upcourt. Guys making chest passes in and around the key (that get stolen easily) instead of keeping the ball high and/or making bounce passes.

We got better as the game rolled along. That's a positive and I'll hold on to that. That and all the hustle everybody played with AFTER we fell behind big.

Lineup: Felcris Jay Corpuz Ahadain, Ryan Higashionna, Micah Visoria,Kapaa Nishimura, Kanehe Nishimura, Chase Santos, Radyn Kaleikini,Josh M DE Jesus.
