Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
I finally got to watch this game video late Tuesday night. What a satisfying watch. Everybody played such a smart game. One of the pluses about having such a small rotation (seven players) is that there is more chemistry and rhythm among the players due to less subbing. The tempo was just right for a small rotation, but the defense was still OUTSTANDING. Props to everybody on the 13U. You are playing well, playing smart and having fun. Doesn't get much better than that, but there's a lot of battles ahead. You're unbeaten, so every team will bring its best game. Rise to each challenge. Coach Larry and Coach Roy are doing a fantastic job helping you. Notes: Kalai, you're probably not having the same kind of excitement you normally have on the fullcourt press, but your energy level and great defense in the Sonic is unreal. ... Kali‘a, your patience and effectiveness on the low post as a scorer are superb. Your defense and rebounding are solid. We probably have the most balanced team in the entire 13U league because of you. ... Jared, your defense continues to be excellent, no matter how bad the calls are sometimes by officials. Keep up that great weapon, and it's nice see your floater back in action. Unstoppable. ... Kyle, great job as the floor maestro, balancing the right moments to pass, to drive, to shoot. Your defense has improved from good to great, but don't fall in lub with the shotblocking too much. We need you on the floor. ... Tanielu ... I always envisioned you in the Sonic thriving like this. I only wish I'd made it part of our core defensive package sooner. Your ability to finish on the fastbreak and on the low post are matched by few, but it's your wisdom as a passer that sets you apart from most athletes with your talent. ... Walter, I know I've asked a lot from you to be part of the 13U lineup. Learn as much as you can. I know you have the natural ability and instincts to become a fantastic player. Think of this opportunity as a chance to progress at an accelerated rate. Playing with and against faster, stronger, bigger players can help you refine your strengths. I know it can. I'll start posting more "notes" about games as I catch up on videos. It's just so gratifying to see all the parents and players working together to get to games, helping out with rides, feeding the kids ... it's bigger than one person and hopefully will always be that way. We're a basketball ohana and I lub it. Stay hungry, my friends. And stay sharp! WE LUB THIS GAME!
