Massive mahalos to Auntie Selene Valdez Horita for being our scorebook keeper and Uncle Don Quixote for filming the entire game. Stats: Haden 10 points, Avari 9, Eisley 8. Amac was tireless out there on defense. Major defensive pressure by TJ. Some key steals by Miki. Dylan battled their bigs inside in a game when we needed to dig deep to match the team's strength and physicality.
This was epic. Our Thunder Pups trailed for most of the game by 4-6 points against TD's strong posts and quick guards. Their fullcourt press and halfcourt defense were persistent and took us time to solve. They rotated in an army of fresh players. It was an emotional process for our Pups, and they hung in there and rallied in the final 10 minutes. Avari, TJ and Eisley with big steals again and again, but it was difficult to score on their tall defenders. We did get into the bonus, and that was huge.
We went ahead in the final 2:00, then Amac, Avari, Haden and Eisley made big free throws. We dropped the press for one possession and Team Dream tied the game in 5 seconds. So we kept the pressure on and hung on for a gritty win.
These young Pups are now my heroes! I don't know exactly where or how they summoned the energy in another long game (stop clock), but our Ohana cheering them on definitely helped. I wonder if we will have enough juice left for the last pool play game in the morning, and the championship game in the afternoon. But God has special keiki on this team and they always come up with the most amazing feats by playing with the biggest hearts.
