CAL League, Varsity Division, Kilauea gym
Tenchi Robinson made a putback layup with :00 left to win the game for the Thunder.
Tough battle. We had an eight- or nine-point lead early off our fullcourt pressure, but couldn't sustain it. Kaimuki hit some open 3-pointers in the second half and took the lead in the final quarter and it was back and forth. They had just six players, but it was a solid six. I think Coach Greydon's team has good potential for this coming OIA season, especially when they get their football guys like Keanu Pratt.
For us, it was a good game by our older guys like Mosi Afe and Chase Santos. Radyn got there late, but he got some key minutes for us in the second half and we got solid play from Colin Micah Ramos, Micah Visoriaand our other ninth and eighth graders.
Our fundamentals still need lots of work, getting better a bit every time. Missed a bunch of short-range shots, turned the ball over on easy scoring situations, just simply lack of reps and that's easily fixable for the guys willing to put in the time.
We are still probably the youngest team in all varsity and JV leagues. I think by spring, we'll be sounder in fundamentals and having a lot more fun. I just wonder about availability. A lot of guys are planning to play volleyball or run track. We'll figure it out.
Lineup: Jonah, Jance, Jayden, Sierra, Tenchi, Mosi, Radyn, Colin, Ryan, Micah, Chase.
Next: Tuesday, 4:30 pm - Practice at Makiki Park.
