PAA League, 15U Division, Kilauea gym
We were 7 strong, all 14 and under (except for Sierra), but we led almost the entire way by using our hustle, defense and smarts. Skill and heart go a long way against all of these tall teams.
Kyle and Kali‘a anchored us inside, while the rest of our guys were strictly guards who really defended strong under the basket on box-outs. Sierra and Ryan hit clutch threes in the final minutes for us. Kyle, our inside/out guy, hit two huge free throws in the final minute, and Kali‘a pulled in a major offensive rebound for us in the final 5 seconds when we had to shoot with the shot clock running out.
We got outstanding defense and floor leadership from Jared at the point, even some big rebounds (as usual). Josh was solid on the perimeter with pressure and passing. Felcris was valuable as a key ballhandler (no turnovers) against OTB's pressure defense.
A fun team win. We weren't deep and a lot of our guys are busy with football, studies or recovering from injury, but our 7 Thunder proved that we had more than enough tonight.
Lineup: Felcris Jay Corpuz Ahadain, Sierra Murobayashi, Ryan Higashionna, Josh M DE Jesus, Jared Elwin, Kali'a Mielke, Kyle Moraga.
