H1 Thunder 35, Hoops4Christ 26 (13U)

CAL Basketball League, 13U Gold Division, Kilauea gym
Small ball rules again. We faced a tall, athletic H4C squad. They had three players at least 5-10 to 6 feet, but instead of playing a slow, halfcourt game, we stuck to our strengths. We got plenty of energy from all 8 Thunder today, including our rookie 11-year-old, Jayden.

We might not be this fortunate, having 8 guys there, but for today, we had more than enough. The guys who have been working hard at practice and the guys who have been busy with other sports (at school) did a fine job meshing and moving the ball today. Like I said after the game, they may look like they're all 10 years old, but they play like they're 15 or 16.

Heart and skills always go a long, long way. Guys hitting the floor for loose balls, boxing out H4C's big guys, pressing fullcourt most of the game and pushing the ball upcourt for open shots. It was fun to watch.

Lineup: Jayden Ramos, Josh Roberts, Walter Berthold, Felcris Jay CorpuzAhadain, Ryan Higashionna, Javan Montiho, Colin Micah Ramos, Micah Visoria. Our 5-foot-7 and under small-ball team did the job again.

Mahalo to Josh De Jesus for making his assistant coach debut on the bench! He did a nice job helping me with the rotation.

Mahalo to the Thunder parents for the birthday cupcakes. You guys think of everything, even an old man's age.

Next: Sunday, 2:40 pm - H1 Thunder vs. McKinley (CAL 15U), Kilauea gym. Warmups/stretching 1:40 pm.
