KAC Thunder: Monday update

Job well done, Thunder. What we lacked in precision, we made up for with hustle and defense. We had an abundance of hustle. Five wins in five games should make us feel pretty good, but are you willing to keep improving? Or will you become complacent and lazy, allowing other teams to surpass you?

I can't answer that for you, of course. Coach Bo, Coach Roy and I are just your coaches. We can only do so much and the rest is up to you. Will you keep working at practice on your skills? Will you be a better basketball player at season's end than you are today?

Questions, questions, questions. The answer is within you.

Practice schedule:
Monday, 4:30 p.m., Kahala Park
Tuesday, 4:30 p.m., Kahala Park
Wednesday, 4:30 p.m., Kahala Park
Thursday, 4:30 p.m., Kahala Park
Friday, 4:30 p.m., Kahala Park
Saturday, 4:30 p.m., Kahala Park
Sunday, 3 p.m. pre-game, 4 p.m. game, Kalani High School

On certain days, I'll be there at 4:45 or 5 p.m. depending on traffic after I pick Josh up from summer school.

Also, we're not set on whether we're going back to Boys & Girls Club on Wednesday to play pickup games. As I said before, it's not the ideal situation, but it's something different and the level of players there is decent.

Friday's practices may be moved to Kapaolono Park (Kaimuki-Kapahulu area). The KAC director tells me that other team(s) are complaining that we're crowding them out of their space at Kahala Park on Fridays. Nobody from any other team has talked to me about this, and we only use a half-court when it's busy at the park, so this is a surprise to me.

The KAC director suggested that we scrimmage those teams at Kahala Park on Fridays, but they are usually 12-13 age group teams. That would not be constructive for our team. I also told him that we have no interest in scrimmaging teams that we play 3 times (each) during the league.

The KAC director recommended that we use Kapaolono on Fridays. There are two courts at Kapaolono and only one team practices there, he says, so that should solve any alleged problem.

As always, make the practices that you can. You have every opportunity to improve your skills this summer. Max it out and see how far you can go as a player and as a team. Wins and losses are byproducts of your effort as a team and your positive attitude toward yourself and your teammates.

The drills at practice are fun if you truly love a challenge. Games are 'funner', don't you agree?
