KAC Thunder: Friday update

Just a reminder: practice is at Kapaolono Park today, 4:30 p.m. It's pizza day!

Our visit to Boys & Girls Club on Wednesday was fairly good. Our four guys (Colby, Orion, Kerl and Karl) got in four games. Coach Roy joined them on the court. Overall quality of players there is always solid and any chance to get 5-on-5 is usually good for us.

Thursday's practice was solid. We got a lot of work done on shooting, ballhandling and rebounding.

On the DL: Josh (sprained wrist, sprained finger)
Also out: Mike (visiting San Antonio for two weeks)

CAL League: For those of you who haven't read earlier posts or heard from your sons, we've been invited to play in the Compete and Learn league (CAL), which is run by Greydon Espinda. He's an OIA basketball referee who is a former Kaimuki teammate of mine. His children play basketball, as well.

CAL's 13-under league is almost done. They play Mondays at Kilauea and they use a 30-second shot clock. The 15-under begins on August 22 and all games in that division will be on Sundays. Greydon asked me to enter a team, so the six players we have who are age-eligible get first dibs. I'll fill in the other four or so slots and have asked the guys to recommend some new players to me.

I'd like to talk with you parents about the CAL league after our game this Sunday, so please stick around for a few minutes. It's definitely going to be more competitive than the KAC league, which will be good for each of our players. They want to stick together and keep playing, so this is a good opportunity before the high school basketball season starts in November.

More later. See you guys at Kapaolono.

Schedule
Friday, practice 4:30 p.m., Kapaolono Park
Saturday, practice, 4:30 p.m., Kahala Park
Sunday, pre-game 3 p.m., game 4 p.m., Kalani High School gym
