Boom sat in a 2-3 zone most of the game and we struggled with ball movement, low-post play and chemistry - not surprising with our influx of new guys and so many missing players. It's not easy to get everyone on the same page with some guys busy at school (varsity) practices), but we'll keep building some cohesion through any adversity.
We had some good moments when Boom tried to press us fullcourt, but some old habits (too much dribbling against zone press and halfcourt zone) will have to disappear for our team to improve as a unit. That takes time and a lot of patience.
The smart teams will zone us, and any time the go man on us, that's our opportunity to attack, to finish at the basket strong or drive and kick. Defensively, we have good plays and then we have lapses (early positioning, not playing strong, boxing out), and that's a product of lack of practice time together - again, not a surprise for a group that's been together for just a few weeks.
It's true that most of our 15U team is 14 years old, but I'm not focusing on that. We need reps and playing time together, and with that, the talent and skill will pour out. Patience.
Last note: Good to see Kanehe back on the court - healthy!
Mahalo to Uncle Eric Murobayashi for shooting the game video again. Mahalo to Uncle Gerard for getting the basketballs and video camera to the game on time while I was busy at work (state judo tourney).
Today's lineup: Kapaa Nishimura, Chase Santos, Kanehe Nishimura, Sierra Murobayashi, Raydyn Kaleikini, Drake Lee.
Next: Sunday, 1:00 pm - Thunder vs. Dream Hoops (15U), Kilauea gym.
WE LUB THIS GAME!!
