Sharks 41, H1 Thunder 39 (15U)

PAA 15U, Kilauea gym

All in all, happy with the hustle and passing. We got stronger in the paint defensively after the first few minutes. Then we fell behind by 10 early in the second half, rallied and had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer. Two chances.
Despite the loss, we learned some things.
1. Swing the ball quickly instead of forcing penetration. If we get an open 3 off the fastbreak, we'll take it.
2. We've got to do reps on footwork. The traveling calls in this game are correctible but only if there's work put to it.
3. Guys who hesitate at the 3-point line usually turn the ball over at all levels (pro/college/prep), and that's a result of lack of 3-point shooting practice. Nothing more, nothing less. So come to practice and cash in!
4. We've got some 3-on-2 and 2-on-1 transition work to do. In one situation, we were on defense in a 3-on-2 and neither guy stopped the ball. Layup by the Sharks. In a 2-on-1 late in the game, a give-and-go would've made it an easy layup. This is the kind of stuff that we learn when we're 14, 13 years old. So don't get down. Just learn, get better and enjoy the ride!

Our guys under the basket fought like hell against those tall Sharks. Kapaa, Kyle, Kali‘a, great work. We did nice work defensively on the 3-point line too with Anu, Sifo, Sierra, Manoa.

We were missing a lot of our 15U guys, but we did pretty great with the Thunder we had. This is only the first game of the 15U season and there will be playoffs, so hopefully we start to peak from here. Overall, this was a fun game even though half the guys haven't been to a practice in ages.

Tonight's lineup: Sierra Murobayashi, Joshua de Jesus, Gabriel Porras, Sisifo Lauvao, Kapaa Nishimura, Keanu Pratt, Kyle Moraga, Kali'a Mielke, Manoa Kualii Moe.

I really like this group. Add in some of our veterans like Mosi Afe, Chris Afe and Tone Lauvao, plus some of our 13U standouts like Jared Elwin and that's a real tough 15U team. Let's get better one day, one practice, one game at a time. Proud of you guys! WE LUB THIS GAME!
