This is a conversation I remember with Dyrbe Enos after his senior season at Kamehameha. Not verbatim, but pretty close to it.
Me: Your accuracy is still high, but I noticed your release is even quicker this year.
Dyrbe: I really worked hard on it, so thanks.
Me: That first preseason game against Radford, it was impossible for them to stop you, the release was so quick. (Dyrbe scored 31 points on just 14 shot attempts and had just 1 turnover.) How often did you work on your shot?
Dyrbe: 500 shots every day.
Me: Wow! Four or five days a week?
Dyrbe: No, every day.
Me: Seven days a week?
Dyrbe: Yup.
Me: When did you take a break?
Dyrbe: No breaks.
Me: No breaks? Like, every single day of the offseason, seven days a week?
Dyrbe: Yup. Can't take a day off.
He is one of the best shooting guards in the history of Hawaii high school basketball. Dyrbe now plays for the University of Hawaii.
