A good battle with a tall team from Kailua. A big third quarter, fueled by our fullcourt press, was a big factor. Fun game to watch.
If you notice a lot of fouls being called, that's because this was part of the OIA referee training, hosted by CAL League. In other words, this is how most high school games are called. I don't care much how referees call a game, as long as they are consistent and fair. Never expect perfection from them. It's a tough job.
When referees allow plenty of physical play, we learn to adjust. That's been one of the best things we've done in the past year. A good team has to be ready to adjust to the officiating. On the mainland, most of the referees allowed a lot of contact, stuff that was sometimes blatant fouls normally. But we were ready.
