We had a good turnout of 6 strong: Javan Montiho, Kali'a Mielke, Jared Elwin, Kyle Moraga, Joshua de Jesus and Kapaa Nishimura. Coach Rob and I joined in for our scrimmage. We got some work done, not as much as I'd like, but there's only so much we can do in one hour.
Scrimmage: Going 4-on-4 fullcourt man defense gives us a lot of teachable moments. There's no place to hide when a defender doesn't play smart. So we keep running, scrimmaging and learning from our mistakes every time we hit the court. That's one of the beautiful things about competition: there are times when us coaches have to speak up, and there's times when nothing needs to be said.
Defense teaches responsibility. It's work, but it's also about heart, and we got lots of that!
The team of Kali‘a, Javan, Kapaa and Coach Paul edged the team of Jared, Kyle, Josh and Coach Rob 35-34 (something like that). Good work. Fun work.
Next: Wednesday, 5:00 pm, practice at Makiki Park. Everybody - 13U, 15U, 17U, Thunder alumni, Thunder dads, Thunder brothers - is welcome to compete. We need that.
WE LUB THIS GAAAAME!!
