It is, in essence, the original Beautiful Game. While the design is wonderful DNA, the guts of the system is work ethic. Like anything else, nothing worth working for is acquired without blood, sweat and tears, and not necessarily in this order.

Great first half
Guys, great performance in the first half this morning. We were up 43-33 on Kapolei Rebels and I thought we still had lots of gas in the tank. Boy, was I wrong.
First, props to Kapolei (and Coach Jonathan Gelacio) for fighting back and winning 79-71. Between their big guys and our faster small guys, I thought we were going to wear them down in the second half like we did two weeks ago at the Aiea tournament. The difference, of course, is that we had 12 players at the tournament. Today, we had seven.
So we'll get back to work tomorrow at practice. I think yesterday's shooing practice definitely helped today. I haven't seen any of my teams shoot and press like that for a half since 1999-2000 when I was at Kaimuki JV. Our second game, we scored 88 points.
I wouldn't change much about today's game plan except this: I'd slow it down to start the second half and let you guys get your second wind. In a spread offense (four corners), I don't think anybody can beat us. Even if we have two big men (Kaelen and Max) on the floor together, there's no big man who can keep up with Max on the perimeter.
Also, I'd still run in the second half for a few minutes, then bring it back out to finish the game. But that's all HINDSIGHT now that I've seen what we really can do with 7 players for a full game, a whole game of maximum uptempo. So this week, the goals are simple: work more on our trapping, work more on our shooting (always good to stay sharp), work on our spread offense and work on conditioning. Whether we run a lot or a little less, we need to get in better shape for the final minutes. We tired out today. No more of that.
