Zone Offense: VanDerveer

Stanford women's coach Tara VanDerveer keeps this version of a zone offense simple and effective. Old guys know this stuff from experience, but it's good for younger players to watch and learn. The baseline is often a key spot to exploit when the forward is drawn to the ball on the post.

This is similar to our X set, except there's an emphasis here on the wing "curling" through the middle, around the post, to the open spot on the baseline. From there, open shots and passes are plentiful.

Note (Aug. 12): After watching this and having our guys work on it Tuesday, I realized where I'd seen this before. North Carolina ran a version of it back when Matt Doherty played. He often stationed himself right behind the defense and shredded zones with his pinpoint passes to the posts for easy baskets.
