It is, in essence, the original Beautiful Game. While the design is wonderful DNA, the guts of the system is work ethic. Like anything else, nothing worth working for is acquired without blood, sweat and tears, and not necessarily in this order.

Big mahalo to the Agbayani Ohana for filming this game. Man Up is a mix of players, very skilled and athletic, including one from Hilo. They're playing in a tournament at Kalaheo HS next weekend so this was basically a tune-up game for them.
On our side, Noel battled their big guys, a couple of 6-2 kids, tooth and nail. Kona was our point center and primary ball handler. With this roster missing numerous practices as a first-time team, we saw some improvement, but at this rate it hasn't translated on the court. The daily commitment as a team has not matched the talk.
It's been good to see Zachary become much more aggressive. I'm hoping this team keeps practicing even after Kona's family moves to Maui. But I'm not going to enter this group into any more leagues until we see real commitment across the board. CAL 8th Grade summer league starts soon (May). We should keep improving in the Silver Division with the dedicated 8th Graders and the 6th and 5th Graders helping out. But I need to see real commitment from the 8th graders, working out and getting reps not just at team practice, but on their own time every day. We need that from them just to be competitive.
