Lanakila 29, Thunder 16 (JV)

Ikaika JV Division
Salt Lake gym
Totally fatigued from the earlier PAA JV game. It was 94 degrees outside. Humid inside.

Compared to a month or two ago, our conditioning is hitting a bottom. There were only one or two guys among our starters who was still playing with energy start to finish. The one-handed passes that became turnovers, the lack of box-outs, the lack of physical defense ... it doesn't work against taller, older teams.

It was too bad because Lanakila doesn't have more skill than our team. But they were fresh and we were zombies. Out of shape zombies. On Maui, we played two to three games per day and played strong. Now?

Without actual practice with the whole team there, we're nothing like the team that was cohesive and accurate in the spring and summer. If our players have a solution to this, let's hear it. If it's one practice per week, maybe on Sunday afternoons, that's good with me. Beats having zero practices per week together as a team.

We got by for awhile, going 14-2 in fall leagues. Now we've lost 4 of the last 5 (and the win was a forfeit). The worst part, though, isn't the losing. It's seeing guys not develop into better players, into a better team, during these last several weeks.

Big Mahalo to Jason, Jance's dad, for shooting the game video.
