Hoops4Christ 39, H1 Thunder 34 (JV)

Aiea Blazers JV Tournament, Aiea District Park gym

Our best defensive effort in pool play, battling 6-4 center Isaac Liva on the glass. All our boys in the paint did their best to keep him out, but he was relentless, long arms and volleyball hops. That's the difference between H4C this year and years past. Liva is a legit big man and he's only a sophomore (HBA).

We struggled with execution in halfcourt zone offense (again). By the time we got some flow going, running plays all the way through, we went ahead briefly with about 2:00 left. We spread the court to get H4C out of its 2-3 zone and pull Liva out of the paint. But right away, we threw the ball away, and then we missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with a 34-33 lead.

H4C scored in transition on us and we never led again. It was a hearty effort after a really stale start offensively. Now we're in the consolation bracket of this tournament, which hasn't happened in a long time. I can't remember.

Lineup: Felcris Jay Corpuz Ahadain, Ryan Higashionna, Javan Montiho,Gabriel Porras, Tanielu Mosi Afe, Kali'a Mielke, Raydyn Kaleikini, Kyle Moraga, Keanu Pratt, Kanehe Nishimura.

Mahalo to Coach Roy for picking up Anu.

Next: Sunday, 9:50 am - Thunder vs. Mililani Bombers. Warmups/stretching 8:50 am. If we win, we play for fifth place later.
WE STILL LUB THIS GAME!
