Mentally tough

Nice win for our 15U against a gritty, young Kupaa team today (Friday), 30-25. They zoned us at times, especially when they couldn't contain our man offense. Sifo did a nice job getting inside and drawing fouls, as usual. When the outside shot isn't falling, going inside is always a wise strategy.

We had our share of open looks from deep and didn't hit, but those are shots we'll continue to take in the flow of our offense — when we have rebounders in the paint. Kupaa had a lot of open 3s, too, and struggled. Our defense on the 3-point line was not good to start, but we got smarter and better by the second half. Even Chris closed out on a shooter in the corner, racing from the middle of the key to force the shooter into an air ball.

That was one of our defensive highlights. Defense will carry us, as will smart offense when the outside shots aren't dropping.

Tomorrow (Sunday), it's a 15U/13U doubleheader in the morning. Fun, fun, fun! Then our team potluck picnic at Ala Moana Park. If you plan to attend, but haven't been in touch, text or call me (551-1054). We'll be on the ewa side of the park, probably on the grassy park area.
