Once we got that straightened out (for today at least), we scrimmaged. It was probably the best comeback in an intersquad scrimmage since last summer when Christian Akana hit a tying 3 from the corner with a few seconds left before Drew Viena launched a fullcourt toss that was all-net. That was at the Stevenson Middle School court.
This time, the orange team was down nine points, chipped it to 42-34 with 2 minutes left. Then Kaelen hit an open trey from the right wing. The white team missed a free throw (I think) and Jared hit a wide-open 3 from the left corner to cut it to 42-40. Then came a steal off the press and Jared hit a putback to tie it at 42-all with 13 seconds left.
Unfortunately, there was confusion about the score and Orange fouled with 10 seconds left. Kency hit one of two free throws to give White the lead again. Orange got one shot off before time expired. Kaelen's 17-footer from near the elbow was long. That was fun, even seeing Kaelen and Cody flat on the court in agony over losing.
The final 2 minutes were special because Jared has been working hard on his perimeter shot and Kency has been working hard on his free throws. That's how we do it, one day at a time, rep after rep, just getting better and better. Nothing will stop you but yourself. It's up to you.
I lub this game.
