CAL Intermediate Gold Division, Kilauea gym
Our first loss in CAL after four wins.
We took a 10-0 lead, a lot of great defense (deflections turning into fastbreaks). Then it was too many bad decisions with the ball, turnovers, forced shots... mixed in with good decisions, good passes, good shot selection. We've got months without practicing as a whole (intermediate) team and it showed today more than ever.
Good hustle, just needed to play smarter from start to finish against a much taller team. I'm told that Lanakila is basically Maryknoll's intermediate team. That's cool. But we've rarely lost to Maryknoll at this level before, so that tells me something.
Defensively, we had lapses giving up easy shots, not being mentally tough enough to step in and stop their drive.
I'm looking forward to this week, especially with the middle school season over as of yesterday. We'll be practicing together, getting 5-on-5 work done, emphasizing our strengths (shooting, passing, ballhandling) and pruning off our bad habits. That's how champions are made.
Lineup: Josh R, Jhevin, Jayden, Chaz, Micah, Colin Micah Ramos, Ryan,Josh M DE Jesus, Felcris Ahadain.
Next:
Sunday, 4:00 pm - Practice for our 15U/JV/17U/Varsity. If we have strong turnout, we'll consider a Varsity team in the Ikaika League. If not, no surprise. We can't afford to spend $550 on players who don't want to practice and get better.
