With the way our team is playing now, it would've been great to play in the upper bracket of the NJB All-Net playoffs — the league wasn't sure about the playoff format before it was announced — but apparently we missed the cut (4-5 regular season) after starting out with a lot of missing guys. Still a terrific accomplishment to finish the season with this run of victories.
Final record: 7-5. Won 5 of our last 6 games. The losses include a 3-point loss to Blue Devils, who tied for first in our division, and forfeit losses to Lanakila White and Kapolei Canes. That day we forfeited to Lanakila White, we played an exhibition game (Josh and Felcris from our 13U played) and we won 25-23. LW finished fourth in our division. Canes finished sixth at 5-4, including that forfeit win over us that happened because of a schedule change by the league that I missed. An official win in any of those three scenarios and we would've been in the championship bracket playoffs.
Like league official (and Lanakila coach) Stephen Chong told me a few times in the past two weeks, if we'd had all our guys for the whole season, things would've been totally different. Us against Windward, OTB, Tar Heels or Raiders (the top 4 in the opposite division), I like our chances. Us against Boom (again), Blue Devils, Honolulu Sharks, Lanakila White (our division), I like our chances just as good.
It is what it is. We had a run of injuries, guys busy with football, changing teams, etc. But we were blessed and we rose above such a tough situation. We gained some fine new players who work their tails off. Our 15U gets a new series of tests in the coming weeks with CAL 15U, Maryknoll JV League, Kalani Varsity League. I'm looking forward to all of it.
