This was fairly close until the last few minutes of the first half. As the smaller team, we needed to execute offensively for all 30 minutes, and we didn't do this.
Take away those last few minutes of the first half and it's pretty even all the way. We showed a lot of promise at times, but the inconsistency with the ball against Lanakila's man defense showed that we need to keep working hard at practice. So that's what we will do.
We missed a lot of open threes in this game, similar to the 15U game earlier, so we're doing enough to give ourselves an opportunity to compete. It's not easy being the smaller team, but we had a LOT of steals and a LOT of layup attempts off the steals off our fullcourt pressure.
Then we tired in the second half (lack of practice time/conditioning) and our press was not effective in the last 10 minutes.
Again, without consistent reps during the week — 200+ shots every day — we're not shooting the ball well, and that is big minus for a small team. When we get back to practicing and daily reps and start hitting our 3-point shots and layups consistently (like we did in January and February before school leagues took over), we will compete with any team in 13U.
Getting Chris Afe will help (his football season is almost over). But we need to push ourselves and each other to get better. No substitute for daily shooting and workouts.
Today's lineup: Walter Berthold, Josh Roberts, Felcris Jay Corpuz Ahadain, Javan Montiho, Colin Ramos, Micah Visoria, Ryan Higashionna,Joshua de Jesus.
