Biggest turnout so far for the winter season tonight. Nine strong at Kalakaua Gym (including one of the new guys who is 15 and not playing in CAL League). Did some conditioning, halfcourt offense, shooting drills. Spent a lot of time on zone offense. 13U usually means we see a LOT of zone defenses, so we have to put the time in. Our guys (and girl) picked up on the old and new zone offenses fairly well tonight.
As always, our core players are ready. They know the old plays well. They have the intensity level. But our newer/younger guys are catching up. It's a tough hill to climb, practicing only two or three times a week, but that's what the situation is. First game is on Sunday, so we get to see what we've got.
Our goals are simple: Everybody play smart, play fast, play hard. Do those things and the results usually work out well. But I also know we've got a long ways to go before our new players mesh with our veterans. We're only going as far as our WHOLE team takes us. We learned that last time around. The title teams have depth. Quality depth. We're working on ours.
Next workout: Friday, 6 pm (Coach Roy - I have to check with him on this for confirmation), Kalakaua outside courts. Then Saturday, 1:30 pm, Kalakaua Gym.
Game: Sunday, 2:00 pm, warmups, Kilauea Gym outside courts. Game 3:00 pm, Kilauea Gym. WE LUB THIS GAME.
