Tempo & Tenacity

Three solid workouts this week, Thunder. I know a lot of you have conditioning workouts at school now, which is partly why we're working on shooting and ballhandling a lot this week. At the same time, when we have good numbers at practice, it's always important to get everyone on the same page, learning the same plays and same defenses together. The more we work together, the better we get as a team. Simple, but not easily done. I appreciate everyone making the effort to get to practice, especially you guys who live pretty far away!

As for tempo, few programs set the bar as high as Loyola Marymount (LMU) back in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Same with Hilo in their dynasty days in the BIIF. Now, it's a small college, Grinnell, that does it as well as anyone. One of our plays, Monday, is borrowed from Grinnell, though you won't see it on the video below. Just take note of how consistently they push the ball and how often their posts set screens for their shooters off of the ball on the baseline/corners. Fun stuff!

We haven't installed a 1-2-1-1 fullcourt press yet, but we will if enough guys show up tomorrow (Thursday) at practice. It's the same press Hilo and Loyola and Grinnell run. Slightly different from our current press, but I'd like to have two different looks, especially if we have two bigs in the game together.
