CAL 8th Grade

Mighty mahalo to Auntie Alice for filming today's game. I asked them, after they'd just played 2 or 3 games in the past 3 days, if they wanted to play fast or slow today. They said, "Yes!"
We had good ball movement in transition and halfcourt offense, and Aidan and DJ combined to hit four 3-pointers in the first half. All open shots, good balance off good passes. Jaydan rebounded well and ran the floor like a blur. Carlton was aggressive with discipline. Kepa did Kepa things, playing any position needed, attacking the rim. Kaden played solid defense, especially after we went to man, and when he can learn to use his speed, change direction, get better angles on 1-on-1 fastbreaks, he'll be unstoppable. Kona's long arms are perfect in the middle of Sonic. When he recognizes 1-on-1 opportunities, he is very difficult to stop. We'd like to see more of that eye of the tiger.
We finished CAL season with a loss only to ASA Weapons (yesterday) while we we shorthanded. We finished 6-1. Along with Ikaika League, where these Pups finished 7-3, we are a combined 13-4 in 8th Grade this fall. Plenty of progress so far. Plenty more room to improve.
We'll keep practicing and mastering perimeter and post skills. We need to compete constantly and embrace physical play. This is a unique group of gentlemen who love the game, but need that daily battle to improve. 8th grade is a pivotal year in preparation for high school. Let's maximize every chance we have.
