We led by 6 or 7 before halftime, but the well ran dry in the second half. OC used its usual 1-2-2 zone all game long, which is fine as long as we're hitting open 3-point shots. When they extended the defense, we had problems taking care of the ball.
Our 13U saw the same thing earlier in the season and showed great patience. Our 15U, not quite as patient, and that hurt us some. We also weren't deep with experienced 15U guys today, particularly with Kyle not available.
I'm glad we stayed close for more than a half against a team significantly older than us. One of OC's best 15U players is an 8th grader, but for the most part, we were a 14U team going up against an older, bigger team and we played well for a long stretch.
Without enough depth and quickness, we couldn't afford to press like we normally do. It was a solid season for our 15U. But I have no doubt that if we had our usual lineup, we control this game and win.
My biggest regret, maybe, is that we didn't pull the ball out while we had a decent lead in the first half. Our rhythm and ball movement at that point was very good, though, so I decided not to.
Season over in OBL. We reached the semifinals in both 13U and 15U. Good, striving for greatness.
WE LUB THIS GAME!
