Kalakaua Academy 39, H1 Thunder 37 (13U)

OBL 13U semifinals, Koko Head gym

The season in OBL came to an end for our 13U. I feel bad for them. They played so well this season, especially when everybody was healthy. But even in adversity, they adapted and still won games close and not so close. It's a great building block of a season for this group, which has really developed and improved since our older guys turned 14 and moved up for good.

Kalakaua played well, jumped out 9-0 on us, and we came back to finally tie it at 37 on a 3 by Josh with about 2 minutes left. Kalakaua hit a mid-range jumper to take the lead, and we had opportunities in the final minute or so, but we never got penetration against their tough man defense.

We did get a good look from 3 by Colin. His shot was on line, just a little long as the buzzer sounded.

We didn't have Kapaa for very long. He went from not playing (ankle) to actually saying OK to playing for a few minutes early in the second half, then he sat the rest of the game. But we had Chris back for the first time in awhile (football) and he contributed a lot tonight.

We played well enough to win, just came one basket short. We'll get better against physical man defenses with more practice and more growth, and I mean physical growth.

GOOD SEASON, THUNDER 13U!
